Student Success!Carrie Meltz

Getting ahead . . . Close to home

Carrie Meltz of Oscoda wants to be a lawyer. Shortly after graduating from ACES Academy in Alpena in 2007, she decided to enroll at Alpena Community College’s Huron Shores campus to get her education on track so she can help others as an attorney.

ACC’s Huron Shores Campus offers general education courses fit for those who want to transfer to a university. Carrie chose the Huron Shores campus because it is close to her home in Oscoda. She can also raise her GPA at community college improving her chances of acceptance to the University of Michigan, where she plans to transfer.

“The instructors here are very understanding and caring. They encourage me to continue my education. ACC really helps you to get a good start and get your feet on the ground before going off to a major university,” she said.

Carrie’s ultimate plans are to become a lawyer, write a crime thriller novel, and start a family. She is well on her way to obtaining the skills to do so at ACC’s Huron Shores Campus.
