Spotlight: Student Support Service Students Travel to Stratford

Student Support Services, a federally funded TRIO program, provides services to eligible ACC students. Located in The Learning Center, the goal of Student Support Services is to promote academic success and enrich the college experience of participating students. Some of the services offered to students include the following: academic assistance; workshops; transfer assistance; academic, career, and personal counseling; cultural activities; and services for students with disabilities.

Student Support Service students and staff enjoy a guided tour of Stratford, Ontario prior to attending a professional production of the musical Hello, Dolly!

Activities are changed and modified to meet the needs of students each year. A newsletter, The Spotlight, is published throughout the fall and spring semesters to inform Student Support Services participants of up-coming activities. Following are some of the events and services students found beneficial for 2004-2005:

• Free Tickets to Thunder Bay Theatre & Alpena Civic Theatre
• MLA Workshop
• Campus Visits to Lake Superior State University
• Detroit Pistons Basketball Game
• Blackboard Workshop
• Campus Visit to Michigan State University and Caravan Circus
• Financial Aid (FAFSA) Workshop
• Free Tickets to ACC Spotlight Series
• Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Ontario
