Housing for participants has been arranged at a reduced cost with
College Park Apartments
(https://www.alpenacc.edu/services/facilities/collegeprkapts.htm), on the
campus of Alpena Community College,
which offers furnished, multi-bedroom, full kitchen residences available for
weekly rental during summer sessions.
The special NEH Workshop Rate is $200 per person. Participants would have a private bedroom (individually keyed) in a shared 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment. If you are traveling with family or would prefer not to share an apartment, you may book an entire 4-bedroom apartment for the week of the workshop for $750. Reservations begin 4pm on Sunday and end at 10am on Saturday.
These discounted rates will be valid only for reservations made before May 1, 2011. Reservations should be made through the workshop Project Director Cathy Green (cathy.green@noaa.gov or 989-356-8805 ext.10) rather than with College Park Apartments directly.
While the apartments are approximately one mile from the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center and along a scenic walking/biking path following the Thunder Bay River, Alpena Community College will provide bikes and vans for daily transportation. Participants are also welcome to drive their own vehicles.
For those wanting alternative housing options, lodging at local hotels is plentiful, reasonable and close to workshop locations. Because of its proximity to workshop locations, we recommend:
