H old on!
this summer is off to a supercharged start! The team leaders have
been working on plans and new team builders. We will have
orientation for the Team Leaders the week of June 9th (sorry -- you
are doing exams!) The "super secret celebration" is brilliant, in
more ways than one. Mark your calendars. We start on June 23 and
will be working on our garage sale fund-raiser for the 27th and 28th
of June. Parents are invited to help this week and to have you clean
out the garage for those old (but useable) toys games and clothes.
We are accepting large and small items, and will pick up furniture
and other useable household items. The Celebration and Recognition
will be "Star Studded" - save the day and be there! We have a new
team this year called the Campus Corridor team. This team is a new
idea and one that we hope takes off. We have some new projects in
SOS camp and encourage you to be a counselor. The Team Leaders will
be at AHS and TBJHS in the next week to get you to sign on for the
summer. Please be sure that you pick up your summer forms in my
office in F- House. I’m sure that as you read this you will notice
that we have repeated ourselves, we can’t help it, this is going to
be the best summer ever, the only reason that it won’t be the best
is if you aren’t here with us! Remember you don’t have to come every
day all day for each session. Volunteer around work and other events
like driver’s training! We understand, just join us!

Team Leader Salute
W e are so
excited for you to start the best summer of your lives! Plans are
already underway for new and exciting projects plus a surprise
celebration! Here are some of each team leader’s plans for the
summer:
Sarah Musynski: "Our team will constitute the
Presque Isle Branch of YVC. We will be doing a variety of things
such as organizing group birthday parties for area senior citizens.
Expect to be outside often! Start looking forward to the end of
summer celebration!"
Becky: "Past projects for the Human Needs Team have included
volunteering at the Senior Center, St. Bernard’s Friendship Room,
The Youth Center and Pied Piper School. If you enjoy helping others
and working with people of all ages, then this is the group for
you!" Lisa: "This year we have a new team called Campus Corridor. We
will be going to help out with the Alpena Youth Center, cleaning up
Woodward Avenue plus we will do a variety of projects around ACC. It
will be lots of funky fun!" Steve; "The Summer of Science Program
will run in two one-week sessions. The theme for this year’s
programs is ‘Imagination Takes Flight.’ To go along with this theme
we will be taking field trips to the Yankee Air Museum, the
Planetarium and one more site that is yet to be decided. There will
also be fun activities like building model airplanes, the high ropes
course and the use of bikes or canoes." Elissa; "The Randomz (mix)
group will be kickin’ this summer in all the hippest volunteer
spots. Plus, we will help plan the Intergenerational picnic, Senior
Birthday Party and work at places like the Youth Center, area
shelters and soup kitchens. Don’t forget our end of summer
celebration which
is SWEET and very much a surprise! Trust
me, Randomz is the way to be."
Hans: "The environmental team will be working at
the island replacing and repairing steps and platforms to make it
safer for the public. We will be helping with the setup of the Brown
Trout Festival and doing many more fun outdoor projects!"
