Function:         Sight and hearing conservation in conjunction with local doctors.  Provide for visual examination and glasses and/or hearing aids for the needy.  Sight restoration through corneal transplant, screen patients and solicit pledges of eyes to The Michigan Eye Bank Center, Ann Arbor.  Collect used eye glasses and hearing aids.  Support Drug Awareness Program through The Lions International Quest Program in the local school system, loan wheel chairs to sick and needy persons.  Support Leader Dogs of Michigan and its Puppy Program.  Provide assistance for medical care and supplies for people with diabetes.

Function:         The Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center (MI-SBTDC) is a statewide network of twelve regional offices providing services for existing small businesses, new ventures, expanding companies, new technology companies, and innovators.  Region 3, located at Alpena Community College, works with Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Otsego, Montmorency, Alpena, Crawford, Oscoda, Alcona, Roscommon, Ogemaw and Iosco Counties.

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am until 4:30 pm.

Services:         Counseling:  Confidential one-on-one meetings with certified, experienced business counselors to assist small business owners with:  1) developing growth strategies; 2) preparing business plans for financing; 3) addressing cash flow issues; 4) defining and quantifying marketing initiatives; 5) developing sales strategies; 6) strategic planning. 

All services of the MI-SBTDC are available at low or no cost.  One-on-one counseling is a free service for individuals who want to improve, revitalize or expand their companies, or develop a new venture.  Training and research services are available for a nominal fee.

Training:  Workshops, seminars and full training programs help entrepreneurs learn about topics such as:  1) getting a business started; 2) how to get financing; 3) cost-effective marketing and sales techniques; 4) setting up legal structures; 5) writing complete business plans; 6) understanding financial operations.

Research: As part of the MI-SBTDC network and through the Seidman School of Business Information Services at Grand Valley state University, the MI-SBTDC can access essential data for developing a new company or for an existing firm to gain a competitive edge including:  1) research to determine market size; 2) competitive analysis; 3) demographics; 4) lead list generation.

Function:         To provide comprehensive mental health services to people in the following categories:  those who have a Developmental Disability and may need specialized expertise in caring for multiple-handicapped children and adults; people who have a mental illness or emotional problems, or are otherwise in need of clinical counseling and treatment resources and services.

NORTHEAST HUMAN SERVICES COORDINATING COUNCIL:  The Council is essentially a planning group that acts through the recommendations of Work Groups, (who receive their "charge" from the Council).  Its purpose is to: maintain a county-level structure which can be used as needed for planning, coordination and development of human services, initiate prevention services, increase collaborative programming, utilize a broader range of funding sources, joint advocacy, and reduce the incidence of human disabilities.

Function: Since its formation in 1941, Civil Air Patrol (“CAP”) has been dedicated to serving its local community, state and nation. Today, CAP supports three primary missions for both its Senior Members (adult members) and Cadets (youth ages 12 to 18 years old):

Cadet Programs focuses on developing the leadership skill of out Cadet members through hands on experience and training.

Aerospace Education – educates both CAP members and the community at large about the importance and fun of aerospace education and flight.

Emergency Services – assisting our community in times of emergency, supporting search and rescue efforts, disaster relief operations and even assistance in counter drug efforts.
