Function:         Local chapter of The National Air Force Association, some 250,000 strong.  It is a non-profit association whose only business is to support the Nation's need for adequate aerospace power to insure the security of the United States.  The Association aggressively supports policies and programs which provide the Air Force with trained personnel and modern weapon systems.  The local chapter works with the personnel of Phelps Collins Combat Training Center Base as a liaison with the community of Alpena.  It is available to answer questions concerning the mission of the Base and the Air Force in general.

Function:         Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other in the hope that they may solve their common problems and help others to recover from alcoholism.  The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.  There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions.  A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, political group, organization or institution, does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes.  Our primary purpose is to stay sober and to help other alcoholics achieve sobriety.

Function:         The Alpena Public Schools operate the public schools program, pre-school through grade 12; programs for the mentally, physically and emotionally handicapped.  Cooperative programming is done in conjunction with Educational Service District, County of Alpena, City of Alpena, and Jesse Besser Museum.  Governed by the Board of Education, seven persons elected by popular vote in the school district, whose duty it is to determine policy and set budget.

Function:         Alpena Regional Medical Center is a 146-bed, non-profit, county-owned hospital.  ARMC is a federally designated rural regional referral center providing a wide range of acute care and ambulatory services.  The hospital provides current technology in diagnostic testing, including MRI, Cardiac Catheterization, SPECT Imaging, CT scans, color flow Doppler, pulmonary function testing, EMG, EEG, and more.  Following is a list of other services offered.
