Questions And Answers About Tutoring
| Q: |
Will the tutoring services cost me
anything? |
| A: |
No. All tutoring services offered at The
Learning Center are free of charge to ACC students. |
| Q: |
Are there tutors in every subject? |
| A: |
Tutoring is available for most subjects
offered at ACC |
| Q: |
Is it a difficult process to get a tutor? |
| A: |
When you first apply for tutoring, you will
be asked to complete an application form and meet with a TLC advisor who can provide
answers to questions regarding TLC services. This is required only one time per academic
year and takes approximately 10-15 minutes. After this initial application process, you
need only to phone the TLC or stop by to schedule your appointment. |
| Q: |
Once I apply for tutoring, how long will
I have to wait before I can meet with my tutor? |
| A: |
It is
strongly recommended that you call or stop by The Learning Center to make an appointment
at least 24 hours in advance so that a tutor can be contacted regarding the reserved
tutoring appointment. |
| Q: |
Do I need to prepare for a tutoring
session? |
| A: |
Yes. You get the most out of the tutoring
session if you have finished class assignments and come with a list of questions or topics
that you would like to discuss. |
| Q: |
What if I need to miss a tutoring
session? |
| A: |
With as much advance notice as possible,
call The Learning Center (989)358-7270 or stop by and let us know that you will not
be coming in so that your tutor can be scheduled to work with someone else. You may
schedule a new appointment immediately or whenever you feel it is necessary. |
| Q: |
If I'm late for an appointment, will the
tutor wait for me? |
| A: |
Yes. The tutor will wait for 15 minutes for
you. Likewise, since all of our tutors are students and are coming from classes, we ask
that you wait 15 minutes for the tutor. |
| Q: |
How are tutors evaluated? |
| A: |
After each session, you will have the
opportunity to evaluate the quality of tutoring that you have received. Tutors are then
evaluated on a monthly basis by the Tutor Coordinator. All comments are welcome. |
| Q: |
Who are the TLC tutors and could I become
a tutor? |
| A: |
Tutors are current ACC students who -
- have already completed the courses in which they will be tutoring, or
- have been referred by instructors to tutor in the course, and
- have obtained a minimum GPA of 3.0.
We are continually looking for new tutors. If you are interested in becoming a tutor, stop
by TLC and speak with the Tutor Coordinator.
