Testing & Certification Services

Alpena Community College offers a variety of testing certification services to students and the local community. Some services require registration and payment of a fee. Services include:

Basic Skills Assessment
The COMPASS placement assessment is required for:

  1. All new Alpena Community College students who do not have A.C.T. Reading, English and Mathematics subscores of 18 or higher and wish to register for more than one course** (Note: placement tests will only be given in the subject areas where subscore minimums were not met) or
  2. Have not earned a minimum of 12 college credits including at least one college level course in either English or Mathematics and
  3. All students who enroll for the first time in an English or mathematics course.

** Students who accumulate 6 credit hours by taking one course per semester will be required to take the compass placement test battery.

The COMPASS Placement Test is strongly recommended for all students, regardless of course load or field of study.
