Alpena Community College:

Alpena Community College is a nationally accredited college and a Michigan public community college.

Our mission:

The mission of Alpena Community College is to serve its communities' lifelong learning needs by providing educational opportunities in the areas of transfer, occupational/technical, developmental, community and continuing education.

Where we're located:

The Alpena Community College main campus is situated on 700 acres in Alpena, Michigan, just a short distance from Lake Huron and about 250 miles North of Detroit, Michigan. Our Huron Shores Campus in Oscoda serves residents in and around Iosco County. In addition, we offer selected classes in Rogers City, Whittemore and Tawas City.

Who we serve:

ACC offers two-year degrees, one-year certificates, customized training and cultural opportunities. Each semester, we attract more than 2,000 credit students of diverse ages and backgrounds. About two-thirds of our students live in the Alpena area, while the remaining one-third or so come from neighboring counties. In addition, the national reputation of the Concrete Technology Program attracts students from elsewhere in Michigan and throughout the United States.

About Alpena:

The Alpena area epitomizes the classic northern Michigan setting defined by lush forests, inland lakes and streams, and the picturesque Lake Huron shoreline. Our sports fishery includes walleye, steelhead, brown trout, perch, northern pike, largemouth, and smallmouth bass. Hunting the elusive whitetail deer is very high on the local agenda along with ruffed grouse, wild turkey, cottontails and snowshoes. This is a picture of the Thunder Bay river which flows through the city of Alpena and is right on the doorstep of Van Lare Hall on ACC's campus.

Things to do:

There are many activities to keep you busy when you are not in class. Winter sports abound up here in northeast Michigan. Snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing, or just horsing around are some of the things to keep you occupied. You might even take in a hockey game or try ice skating at our brand new Northern Lights Arena.
