Program Description:
The 49 credit-hour Master of Arts in Counseling program prepares students to work as professional counselors in one or more of the following: public and private schools, institutions of higher learning, community agencies and private practice. Two program options are available: School Counseling and Professional Counseling. The Master of Arts in Counseling leads to Michigan Licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor for all participants. For those who choose the school counseling specialty, it also leads to endorsement or licensure as a professional school counselor. Courses are offered on weekends in a cohort format. The courses are offered sequentially over a 3 year period with the students beginning and ending the program together. All of the courses are offered at the Alpena site. Practicum and internship experiences are done in the field at local schools and agencies.
